Tibet cuts prices to lure tourists

Tibet has slashed prices to try to lure back tourists. Hotels in Tibetan capital Lhasa have cut prices by up to 70% and air fares have also been reduced.

Tibet played host to just 2.2 million tourists in 2008, down from the four million who visited in 2007.

Xinhua quoted deputy Tibetan tourist bureau head Wang Songping as saying: ‘Most of the tourist attractions, airline companies, hotels and travel services joined the promotion and offered discounts.’

Tibet reopened to domestic tourists last April, and to overseas visitors in late June.
